ABOUT AREA 13
In 1951, the first Area Delegate selected by local AA groups in Washington, D.C. attended the General Service Conference in New York.
Ever since then, the A.A. Groups in Washington, D.C. and surrounding Maryland Suburbs have been involved in A.A.'s General Service.
Today, the Washington Area General Service Assembly (WAGSA) also known as Area 13 of A.A.
represents english speaking A.A. groups and A.A. Districts in Montgomery County, MD, Prince George's County, MD and Washington, D.C.
In addition, it represents all Spanish speaking groups in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
Area 13's various service and operational committees provide an opportunity for A.A. members to contribute to larger-scale strategic initiatives improving how we carry the message to the still suffering alcoholic outside the rooms, benefit local A.A. groups and A.A. Districts and ultimately improving opportunities for 12th step work.
